A former prison complex, now both a museum and the seat of South Africa's Constitutional Court. The Old Fort held white political prisoners; the neighbouring Number Four held black men; the Women's Jail held, among others, Winnie Mandela and Albertina Sisulu. Gandhi was imprisoned here in 1906, Mandela in 1956. The Constitutional Court was built on the site as a conscious counterpoint — the old bricks of the prison incorporated into its walls.
