The Neighbourgoods Market at 73 Juta Street in Braamfontein runs every Saturday from 9am to 3pm and is one of the most lively weekend destinations in the city. The covered market fills a large warehouse with artisan food producers, coffee roasters, craft beer, vinyl record vendors, handmade clothing, and ceramics, with live music running throughout. It draws a young, mixed crowd and has a genuinely good atmosphere.
Braamfontein, the neighbourhood around it, is one of the more interesting parts of central Johannesburg — universities nearby mean student energy, and the area has galleries, bookshops, and coffee bars in the streets around the market. Saturday morning at Neighbourgoods followed by a walk around the neighbourhood is about as close as Johannesburg gets to a classic weekend city experience. It is on the Gautrain bus route from Park Station, or a short Uber from anywhere in the inner city.
