The South African National Museum of Military History covers the country's military past through aircraft, armoured vehicles, artillery, uniforms, medals, and battlefield material. Its collection includes rare pieces such as a Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter and a South African-built G6 self-propelled howitzer.
The museum is strongest for visitors who like machines and 20th-century history. It is also close enough to combine with Rosebank or the Johannesburg Zoo area, making it an easy half-day stop rather than a long trip across the city.
