A car is the most useful way to explore Paarl and its surrounding wine estates. The wine estates are spread across the valley and many are not reachable on foot or by public transport. Cycling is popular — the relatively flat valley floor and the scenic wine routes make for pleasant rides, and several estates have bicycle-friendly facilities.
The town centre itself is walkable, and the historic section of Main Street between the Paarl Museum and the Toringkerk is easily covered on foot. Taxis are available for getting between the town and the further wine estates if you prefer not to drive after tasting.
Wine route buses, when running, connect the major estates on a fixed circuit and drop you back at your accommodation; check at the tourism office on Main Street for the current schedule.
