Paarl's appeal divides neatly into three parts: wine estates and cellars strung along the valley, the cultural history of Afrikaans and its complicated politics, and the natural setting of Paarl Mountain with its remarkable granite domes. It is not a city that rushes you; a leisurely two days gives you time for all of it.
