Nederburg is one of South Africa's most famous wine estates, established in 1791 and now producing wine across a wide range of styles and price points. The estate is best known for its annual auction, which has been held since 1975 and is the most prestigious wine auction on the African continent, drawing buyers from around the world.
The homestead itself is an elegant 18th-century Cape Dutch building surrounded by oak trees and vineyards, and guided tours take you through both the history and the winemaking facilities. Tastings are offered daily and include the estate's full range. Nederburg produces some excellent whites — particularly their Chardonnay and the Noble Late Harvest dessert wine — alongside the more prominent reds. The estate is about 10 kilometres from Paarl centre.
