Sanam

Low-key archaeological site near modern Merowe, tied to the Napatan kingdom.

Sanam is a specialist stop rather than a headline sight, but it adds depth to the Karima area. The remains belong to the wider Napatan world around Jebel Barkal, where temples, cemeteries, settlements, and river crossings formed a connected sacred and political landscape.

Visit only if you have a guide, a vehicle, and a real interest in Kushite archaeology. For most travellers, Jebel Barkal, Nuri, and El Kurru should come first.
