The Temple of Amun spreads across the ground below Jebel Barkal, its pylons, courts, and columns reduced to sun-baked stone but still impressive in scale. This was the ceremonial heart of Napata, where kings linked their rule to Amun and to the sacred mountain behind the sanctuary.
The ruins reward a guide who can point out the plan, because the site is not heavily interpreted on the ground. Walk it with the mountain at your back and the logic becomes clearer: temple, cliff, river, desert, all aligned into one sacred landscape.
