Wadi Halfa Archaeological Museum

The small archaeological museum in Wadi Halfa holds artifacts recovered during the frantic salvage operations carried out before the Aswan dam's reservoir swallowed much of Nubian Sudan in the 1960s. The collection includes pottery, amulets, inscribed stones, and pieces from temples that no longer exist — objects that are now the only tangible record of sites permanently beneath Lake Nubia.

The museum is modest in size and not always consistently open, but for anyone passing through Wadi Halfa with an interest in Nubian history, it is worth seeking out. The staff can often point visitors toward local guides for trips to Sai Island and other surviving sites in the area.
