The main draw of Wadi Halfa is its role as a gateway to Nubian archaeology. Sai Island, just south of town, rewards a day trip with its layers of Egyptian, Kushite, and later Christian ruins. The ferry crossing to Aswan is itself an experience — a slow overnight journey across the reservoir past drowned landscapes.
