Somhlolo National Stadium is Eswatini's main sports venue, with a capacity of around 10,000. Football matches here are social events as much as sporting ones — the atmosphere is lively, the crowds are mixed, and tickets are inexpensive. The stadium also serves as the backdrop for the annual independence day celebrations. It is easily visible from the main road through Lobamba.

A story
The stadium is named after King Somhlolo (also known as Sobhuza I), who ruled in the early 19th century. According to Swazi tradition, Somhlolo had a vision foreseeing the arrival of people with pale skin and a book — interpreted as European missionaries and the Bible. He instructed his people to accept the book but reject the money that came with it. The national stadium bearing his name hosts both football matches and the independence day celebrations each September 6th.
