Auric Air, Coastal Aviation, and Tropical Air run small daily flights from Zanzibar's Abeid Amani Karume Airport to Karume Airport on Pemba (45 minutes), and from Dar es Salaam (90 minutes). One-way fares run roughly US$80–120; book ahead in high season as the planes are nine-seaters.
The Azam Marine ferry from Zanzibar's Stone Town to Mkoani takes 5–6 hours and runs almost daily; the slower MV Mapinduzi-II takes 8 hours and goes to Wete weekly. Both options are reliable in calm weather and miserable in the monsoon. There is no longer a direct ferry to Tanga on the mainland, though dhow passage to Tanga and Mombasa can sometimes be arranged informally at Wete harbour for adventurous travellers.
