Drinking in Tanga is unfussy. The Tanga Yacht Club is the standout — colonial-era veranda, sunset over the bay, cold beer. Elsewhere, a string of small open-air bars along Independence Avenue and Market Street do Tusker and Kilimanjaro and stay open late into the warm evenings. Coffee culture is mostly Arabic-style — strong, sweet kahawa served from a brass jug at street stalls, often with halua, a sweet, gummy sesame paste.
