Bi'r Barouta

Bi'r Barouta is a historic well in Kairouan's old city, traditionally linked with the founding of the city and with the Zamzam well in Mecca. It remains one of the city's smaller but more distinctive religious sites.

Inside the complex, a camel-driven wheel raises water from the well. The visit is brief, but it fits naturally into a walk through the medina between the mosques, souks, and small shrines.
