Medenine's location makes it a sensible base for the ksour country and the Berber villages of the southeast. Tataouine, 50 km south, is the larger sister town and the gateway to the most spectacular ksour. Chenini and Ghomrassen — the famous cliff-side and cave-dwelling Berber villages — are an hour or so further south and well worth the drive. The island of Jerba, reached by causeway or short ferry, is 90 minutes east. Hiring a taxi or car for the day is the practical way to combine several of these stops.
