The beach north of Zarzis stretches for several kilometres with almost no development for most of its length. The water is flat, shallow, and very warm — the Gulf of Gabès traps heat in a way that the open sea does not. Outside July and August, you can walk considerable stretches without passing another person. The area nearest town has some beach cafes and a small promenade; further north, there is nothing but sand.
Zarzis Beach
A story
The beaches north and south of Zarzis are long, flat, and sandy, with shallow warm water — the Gulf of Gabès is considerably warmer than the open Mediterranean because of its enclosed shape. The water temperature can reach 30°C in August. Outside of peak summer, these beaches see almost no visitors despite being easily accessible from the town. The sand is fine and white, and the only infrastructure on much of the beach is a scattering of beach cafes that open in summer.
