Forest Walks and Nature Trails

Bwindi offers guided forest walks for those who want to explore without focusing exclusively on gorillas. The Buhoma and Ruhija sectors have well-marked trails of varying lengths, and guides can be arranged at the park office. The walks are genuinely excellent: the forest is old-growth, the canopy dramatic, and the birding exceptional.

The Munyaga River trail near Buhoma follows a stream through a forest that is home to forest buffalo, elephants, and several primate species. The Rushura Hill trail offers views over the forest canopy and into the Congolese forest across the border. Most guides have an encyclopaedic knowledge of bird calls and will identify species that visitors walking alone would never find.
