By air. Entebbe International Airport (EBB), about 40 kilometers south of Kampala on the shores of Lake Victoria, is Uganda's only international airport. It is a small, modern terminal that handles all international traffic. Direct or one-stop connections are available from Europe (Brussels Airlines, KLM via Kigali, Turkish Airlines), the Middle East (Emirates via Addis Ababa, Qatar Airways), and across Africa (Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, RwandAir). Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa is often the cheapest routing from Europe or North America. Kenya Airways runs multiple daily flights from Nairobi. From Entebbe airport, the drive to Kampala takes 45 minutes to two hours depending on traffic.
Overland from Kenya. The main crossing is at Malaba or Busia, both well-used border posts on the Nairobi-Kampala corridor. Several bus companies run direct services between Nairobi and Kampala (roughly 12 hours, about $25-35). Easy Coach and Modern Coast are reliable operators. The road is paved the entire way.
Overland from Tanzania. The Mutukula border crossing connects Bukoba (Tanzania) with Masaka and then Kampala. Less traffic than the Kenya route, but perfectly doable. From Dar es Salaam the journey is very long -- most travelers fly or cross from the Tanzanian side of Lake Victoria.
Overland from Rwanda. The Katuna/Gatuna border between Kigali and Kabale is busy and efficient. The drive from Kigali to Kampala takes 8-10 hours by bus. Jaguar Executive Coaches and others run daily services. This is also the most common route for travelers heading to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for gorilla trekking.
Overland from DR Congo. Crossings at Mpondwe (near Queen Elizabeth National Park) and Bunagana are possible but check security conditions before attempting them. The DRC border can be unpredictable.
