The bar at Explorers Backpackers in the Bujagali area has become one of the social centres of the Jinja adventure scene. It sits above the river with a long terrace, cold Nile Special lager, and a steady stream of travellers comparing stories from the day's rafting. The setting is hard to beat — you can hear the rapids from the bar on a quiet night.
It gets busy in the evening when the day trippers have gone and the people staying at the lodge settle in. The kitchen serves standard backpacker fare — burgers, chapati wraps, chips — but the real reason people come is the view and the atmosphere. It's one of the few places in Uganda where you reliably meet other independent travellers.
