About 15 kilometres west of Jinja on the Kampala road, Mabira is one of the largest remaining patches of tropical rainforest in Uganda. It's well set up for visitors, with marked walking trails, a canopy walkway, and a resident naturalist guide. Bird life is excellent — over 300 species recorded, including several forest endemics. You can visit in half a day from Jinja, or stay overnight in the forest rest camp if you want to catch the dawn chorus.
