By air. Most international flights arrive at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka. The airport has improved significantly in recent years with a new terminal. Ethiopian Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and Kenya Airways all serve Lusaka with connections through their respective hubs. South African Airlink flies from Johannesburg. From Europe, Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa is often the best value. Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport in Livingstone receives some international flights, mostly from Johannesburg and Nairobi, and is the gateway to Victoria Falls.
By land. Zambia shares borders with eight countries, and overland crossings are generally straightforward. The busiest crossing is between Livingstone and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe -- you can walk across the bridge in minutes. The KAZA UniVisa covers both Zambia and Zimbabwe plus a day trip to Botswana via Kazungula, which is convenient if you are visiting the Falls area. The Kazungula Bridge, opened in 2021, connects Zambia directly to Botswana across the Zambezi. From Tanzania, buses and the TAZARA railway run between Dar es Salaam and Kapiri Mposhi. Crossings into Malawi (at Chipata/Mchinji), Mozambique, Namibia (at Katima Mulilo/Sesheke), and the DRC are all possible, though some are remote and slow.
Visas. As of 2025, citizens of 167 countries can enter Zambia visa-free for up to 30 days. This includes most European, North American, and many Asian nationalities. For those who do need a visa, single-entry costs $25 and is available on arrival at major airports and border posts. Your passport must be valid for at least six months with three blank pages. Check the Zambia Department of Immigration website for the latest requirements.
