Cecil Kop Nature Reserve is the easiest way to get a taste of the Eastern Highlands without leaving Mutare behind. The reserve rises above the city with patches of woodland, open vleis, viewpoints, and wildlife that may include antelope, zebra, and other plains animals depending on current management.
It is a local outing rather than a full safari, but that is its charm. Go for views, birds, and a few hours in the bush close to town; check locally on road conditions and access before driving in.
