By air. Bahrain International Airport (BAH) is the main gateway, located on Muharraq island about 7 kilometers northeast of Manama. Gulf Air, Bahrain's national carrier, uses it as a hub with connections across the Middle East, South Asia, and Europe. Major international airlines including British Airways, Lufthansa, Emirates, and several low-cost carriers also serve the airport. Flight time from London is around 6.5 hours, from New York roughly 14 hours.
The airport was extensively renovated and a new terminal opened in 2021. Facilities are modern and well-equipped. Taxis to central Manama take about 15 minutes and cost around BD 3-5. Ride-hailing apps also work at the airport.
By road. The King Fahad Causeway connects Bahrain to Dhahran in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province. The drive takes about 90 minutes including the border crossing, which can be very slow on Thursday and Friday evenings when Saudi visitors head to Bahrain for the weekend. A toll of BD 3 is payable when leaving Bahrain. You will need a valid Saudi visa to use the causeway in the Saudi direction, and a Bahrain visa or e-visa for the return.
By sea. Bahrain has several ports, but there are no regular passenger ferry services. Private yachts and dhows can enter at Mina Salman or Mina Manama.
