The shrine of the 9th-century Sufi saint Bayazid Bostami draws pilgrims from across Bangladesh. The main attraction for non-religious visitors is the large tank in front of the mosque, which is home to hundreds of soft-shelled turtles — a species considered sacred here and fed by devotees. The turtles are remarkably tame and will emerge from the water to take food from your hand.
