Getting Around

Chittagong has no metro system; getting around relies on a mix of CNG auto-rickshaws, buses, taxis and (increasingly) Uber.

CNG (compressed-natural-gas auto-rickshaws) are the standard mode of transport. Drivers often refuse to use the meter — agree the fare before you set off, around 50-100 taka for short trips, 200-300 taka across town.

Uber and Pathao ride-hailing apps work in the city; cars and motorbike pillion rides are usually cheaper than CNGs and avoid haggling.

City buses are crowded and the routes are hard to figure out as a visitor. Avoid in rush hours.

Walking is workable in the central commercial areas but the pavement quality is poor and the air is bad — masks are advisable for the worst weeks of winter smog.
