Several worthwhile destinations lie within a few hours of Chittagong. Sitakund, 40 kilometres to the north, has a cluster of Hindu and Buddhist temples set around natural hot springs and is easy to reach by bus or CNG auto-rickshaw. Rangamati, about two hours east by road, sits on a large artificial lake and is the gateway to the Chittagong Hill Tracts — the drive through the hills is scenic and the town itself has a relaxed, riverside character. Note that parts of the Hill Tracts require a permit from the Bangladesh government; check the current situation before travelling. Cox's Bazar, two hours south, has the longest unbroken natural beach in the world and is the most popular destination from Chittagong.
