Sadarghat

Chittagong's ancient riverside quarter, busy with ferries and fishing boats

The oldest part of Chittagong, Sadarghat sits on the Karnaphuli River waterfront and has the feel of a port quarter that has been busy for centuries. The river traffic here — ferries, fishing boats, cargo barges — is some of the most photogenic in the city. The narrow lanes behind the waterfront contain old colonial-era buildings, small mosques, and tea stalls. Best explored on foot in the cooler morning hours.
