Singye Dzong is a remote pilgrimage site high in the mountains north of Lhuntse, associated with Guru Rinpoche and his consort Yeshe Tsogyal. It is reached only on foot, on a five- to six-day round trek from Khoma village through some of the wildest country in eastern Bhutan.
The trail crosses subtropical valleys, then climbs into rhododendron and conifer forest and finally onto alpine pasture below the Tibetan border. Yaks graze the high meadows; the dzong itself is a small fortress monastery on a knife-edge ridge. Most years it is accessible only between May and October.
