Punakha Suspension Bridge

The Punakha Suspension Bridge is one of the longest traditional suspension bridges in Bhutan, spanning the Pho Chhu (Male River) near the dzong. It is draped in prayer flags and sways gently as you cross, with the river visible far below through the wooden planks. The crossing takes only a few minutes but feels adventurous, and the view upstream toward Punakha Dzong from the middle of the bridge is one of the best vantage points in the valley.

The bridge connects the road on the south bank to a small village on the north bank, and locals use it as a practical crossing. It is also close to the dzong entrance, making it an easy addition to a visit to Punakha Dzong itself. The prayer flags strung across it are replaced annually during religious festivals.
