Dengfeng Bridge is a historic stone arch bridge crossing the Heng River in the valley below the main mountain complex. Built during the Ming dynasty, it served as the ritual gateway for pilgrims approaching the mountain from the direction of Xiuning County — the formal beginning of the sacred journey. The bridge is named for the imperial ceremony of ascending a mountain to offer sacrifices to heaven, which gives it a status beyond that of a mere river crossing.
The single-arch span is built from carefully fitted grey stone blocks without mortar, a construction technique that has kept it structurally sound for centuries. The bridge stands in a landscape of bamboo groves and paddy fields that has changed little since its construction, and the approach from either bank gives it a photogenic framing within the surrounding hills. It sees few visitors by itself — most people head directly up the mountain — but it is worth the short detour for the combination of historical context and tranquil scenery.
