One of the anchors of the Wangfujing shopping street, apm (the former Sun Dong An Plaza) is a big, busy mall of international high-street fashion, a basement food court and casual restaurants, and an upper-floor cinema. It is unremarkable in itself — the same brands found in any large Asian city — but it is air-conditioned, open late, and a useful refuge from the crowds and the weather mid-stroll.
For most visitors it stands in for what Wangfujing has become: a mainstream shopping street where the malls, rather than the old street stalls, are now the main event.
