Lanzhou is not a nightlife city in the way that Shanghai or Chengdu are. The riverfront around Zhongshan Bridge has a cluster of small bars and cafes that come alive in summer evenings. The university district around Lanzhou University has a handful of coffee shops and casual bars popular with students. Drinking culture is more local than international; baijiu and beer are the standard orders, and closing time tends to be earlier than in eastern Chinese cities.
