Tianxu Sand Palace Geopark is a red-sandstone landscape east of Renshou Mountain in Lanzhou's Anning District. Wind and water have carved the 25-million-year-old rock into a compact group of Danxia-like forms, giving the place its "sand palace" name.
It is less famous than Lanzhou Shuimo Danxia National Park, but it offers a similar taste of the region's dry, sculpted geology without needing to make the larger excursion.
