Wuwei sits on the Lanzhou–Xinjiang rail line, one of the busiest freight and passenger corridors in western China. High-speed train services connect Wuwei South (武威南) station to Lanzhou in about an hour and to Zhangye and Jiuquan in about an hour east. The high-speed station is several kilometres from the city centre; local buses and taxis connect the two.
The city centre also has the older Wuwei station, which serves slower conventional trains. These are less convenient but considerably cheaper for short hops along the Hexi Corridor.
Buses from the intercity bus terminal connect Wuwei to Lanzhou, Zhangye, and other Hexi Corridor cities. The journey times by bus are longer than by high-speed rail but the bus station is more central.
