Orchid Garden

Tranquil garden with 10,000 orchid pots beside Liuhua Lake

The Orchid Garden (兰圃) sits on the western shore of Liuhua Lake in the northern part of the city, a short walk from the Yuexiu Park metro station. It was established in 1957 and grows more than 10,000 pots of orchids across over 100 varieties — from the delicate Cymbidium to showier tropical species. The paths wind through bamboo groves, rockeries, and small pavilions, and there is a teahouse at the centre where you can sit with a pot of tea and watch the regulars do their morning tai chi. It is one of Guangzhou's quieter escapes, less crowded than Yuexiu Park next door and genuinely lovely if orchids are in bloom. Open daily; small admission fee.
