Yuexiu Park

Guangzhou's largest park, home to the iconic Five Rams sculpture

Address Jiefang Bei Road, Yuexiu District

Guangzhou's largest inner-city park, spreading across 92 hectares in the heart of the city. The centrepiece is the Five Rams sculpture — five stone goats that have been the symbol of Guangzhou since the city's founding myth — and it draws a steady stream of visitors alongside locals doing morning tai chi and playing cards in the shade.

The park encloses Yuexiu Hill, where the Zhenhai Tower (also called the Five-Storey Pagoda) has stood since 1380. It now houses the Guangzhou Museum, a straightforward introduction to the city's history from the Bronze Age through the Republican era. The park also contains remnants of the Ming dynasty city walls, a lotus lake, and several sports facilities used by the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Best visited in the morning when the park is busiest with residents rather than tourists.
