Taishan is not directly served by high-speed rail. The most convenient approach is to take the intercity rail or bus from Guangzhou to Jiangmen, then connect by bus to Taicheng — total journey around two to three hours. Direct buses run from Guangzhou's main bus terminals to Taicheng, taking around two hours depending on traffic.
From Kaiping, Taishan is 45 minutes by bus — the two cities are natural companions for anyone interested in the diaolou heritage and Cantonese diaspora history. For Shangchuan Island, buses run from Taicheng to the ferry terminal at Xinchuan, from where ferries depart several times daily.
