Watchtower in the Water

The Watchtower in the Water is one of Taishan's more unusual diaolou sights: a fortified overseas-Chinese watchtower partly submerged after a reservoir was built, leaving only its upper storeys visible above the water.

It is best understood as part of the wider diaolou landscape shared by Taishan and nearby Kaiping. The surrounding reservoir and nearby village make it a memorable short stop for travellers already exploring the area's watchtowers.
