Water Curtain Cave (Shuiliandong) runs 134 metres through the cliff face behind the Huangguoshu waterfall, with six natural window openings cut through the rock face that look out directly onto the falling water. The passage is large enough to walk upright throughout, with chambers and connecting corridors following natural fractures in the limestone. Three natural springs emerge inside the cave, adding to the general wetness.
The windows are the point. From inside the cave, you look out through a vertical curtain of water at the gorge, the pool, and the valley beyond — a frame of falling white against the green hills. The effect is completely unlike any external viewpoint, and the noise inside, conducted through the rock and reflected off the walls, is more overwhelming than standing below the open falls. The entire passage is illuminated and the path is level; waterproof gear is worth wearing regardless of the weather outside, as the spray through the windows is constant.
Access to the cave is included in the main scenic area ticket. The entry is reached via a staircase from the main falls viewing area. The passage is one-way with a single entrance and exit.
