Anyang has a temperate continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. The best times to visit are spring (April to May) and autumn (September to October), when temperatures are comfortable for walking archaeological sites and the air quality is generally better than in the dusty summer months. Summer is hot and humid, with temperatures regularly exceeding 35°C in July and August; winter brings occasional snow and temperatures below freezing, which makes outdoor sites like Yinxu less pleasant.
There are no major festivals in Anyang that would motivate a specific timed visit, though the Yin Ruins Cultural Festival in October celebrates the Shang heritage with performances and exhibitions. The Red Flag Canal scenic area in Linzhou is accessible year-round but is best visited in the green months between April and November.
