The Longmen Grottoes are themselves the destination, but within the site the different cave complexes reward individual attention. The Fengxian Temple is the unmissable centrepiece; the Wanfo Cave and Guyang Cave are the best for small-scale carving detail; the Yaofang Cave is a historical curiosity unlike anything else in the site. Allow at least three hours to walk both the west and east cliffs without rushing.
