Symphony of Lights

Nightly light show across the Hong Kong and Kowloon skylines, best viewed from the Star Ferry pier

Every night at 8pm, the buildings on both sides of Victoria Harbour synchronise their lights, lasers, and searchlights in a 13-minute choreographed display visible from the waterfront. The Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront promenade on the Kowloon side gives the widest angle of view; the Star Ferry pier puts you in the middle of the harbour. Music accompanies the show from speakers along the promenade.

The display is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's largest permanent light and sound show. This may be the least interesting fact about it. More useful to know: the experience varies dramatically with weather. On a clear night with a few clouds to catch the lasers, it is spectacular. On a hazy night it is barely visible. Monday and Thursday nights are reportedly when the full show operates, with partial versions on other nights.
