South Cliff Palace

Cliffside Taoist palace in the Wudang Mountains, dramatically set above a ravine.

South Cliff Palace is one of the most dramatic Taoist sites in the Wudang Mountains, built into cliffs where halls, terraces, and stone paths seem to hang over the valley. It shows why Wudang is more than a single temple: the landscape itself is part of the sacred architecture.

From Shiyan, this belongs to a Wudang day trip or overnight visit rather than a quick city stop. Wear shoes for stairs and uneven stone, and leave time to move slowly. The best moments are not only inside the buildings but along the approaches, where the cliffs and roofs keep shifting against each other.
