Wudang Mountains

Sacred Taoist mountain range near Shiyan, famous for temples, martial arts, and cliffside scenery.

The Wudang Mountains are Shiyan's great travel draw: a sacred Taoist range where temples, palaces, stairways, and forested peaks create one of China's most atmospheric mountain-cultural landscapes. The area is also closely associated with internal martial arts, giving it a reputation that extends far beyond Hubei.

Do not treat Wudang as a single viewpoint. The best visit takes a full day at minimum, and an overnight stay lets you move more slowly between cable cars, paths, palaces, and sunrise points. The mixture of religion, architecture, and mountain air is what makes it exceptional.
