Changde sits on the Zhangjiajie-Changsha railway line, which makes it a natural stop on the most popular tourist circuit in western Hunan. High-speed trains to Changsha take about 90 minutes; trains to Zhangjiajie take around two hours. Changde Taohuayuan Airport handles domestic flights to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing; the airport is named after the famous scenic area in Taoyuan County.
Bus connections to smaller towns in the area are frequent and inexpensive. For Taoyuan County and the Peach Flower Garden, both bus and taxi are practical from the city centre.
