Things to Do

Huaihua rewards visitors who look past its workaday transport-hub exterior. The Japanese surrender memorial at the old airfield is historically unique; the old city of Qianyang to the northeast offers well-preserved Ming and Qing streets without the crowds of Fenghuang; and the surrounding minority villages — Dong, Miao, Tujia — are the real reason to base yourself here for a few days.
