Shaoshan is 90 kilometres southwest of Changsha, reachable in about 25 minutes by high-speed train from Changsha South Station. Services run roughly hourly from 7am, making the visit easily manageable as a day trip. The train station is a few kilometres from the main sights; shared taxis and minibuses connect the two.
By bus the journey takes about 90 minutes. Coaches leave from Changsha's bus stations and drop passengers closer to the village centre than the train station does. Within Shaoshan, the main sites are spread over a couple of kilometres; electric vehicles and carts shuttle visitors between them for a small charge.
