Shaoshan's attractions are all directly or indirectly Mao-related. That could sound limiting, but the density of sites, the strange atmosphere of a place that an entire country has collectively decided is sacred, and the genuine historical interest of the Water Dripping Cave make a half-day here more rewarding than it sounds on paper. The bronze Mao statue and the souvenir market are part of the experience rather than an obstacle to it.
