Zhangguying is about 80 kilometres east of Yueyang, in Yueyang County. There is no direct public transport from Yueyang city to the village; the most practical approach is hiring a car from Yueyang for a half-day excursion. Alternatively, take a bus from Yueyang to Zhangguying Town (the administrative centre of the area) and continue by local taxi or motorcycle taxi to the village entrance. The drive from Yueyang takes about 90 minutes each way.
The roads pass through typical northern Hunan lowland farming country — rice paddies, fish ponds, small market towns — before the village entrance becomes visible from the surrounding fields.
