Zhangguying is a single destination — the ancient residential complex itself. The village is compact enough to cover in two to three hours, but the warren of interconnected lanes, courtyards, and covered streets rewards unhurried exploration. The surrounding landscape of rice paddies and fish ponds is typical northern Hunan countryside at its best.
